Would you like to create an easy, inexpensive, but beautiful faux canopy for your bedroom? Or maybe your daughter’s bedroom or a guest room? Well here is a simple how-to tutorial on how to achieve this look below. It’s really much simpler than you might think. Not much different than hanging daperies in front of a window, but really…..even easier.
It doesn’t require a lot of “stuff”, hard work or money to create this faux canopy look. To create this soft cottage vibe you’ll need three main things:
For that soft, flowy, beachy vibe I think sheers work best for a faux canopy. But, you could technically use whatever drapes you’d like. You would just need to be sure that both sides are pretty or that they’re at least lined for a finished look. I just think the sheers lend themselves to the cottage vibe I was after for this space and I like the airy, sort of free-flowing feel they have. So that’s what I would suggest if you’re going for the cottage look.

You could do gold, black or pewter rods – any color really – to create the canopy if you’d like and add the same accent colors elsewhere. I actually used pewter, because I had them, but I’m thinking of switching them out to all white like these.

And, lastly, this is the basic hardware you’ll need to get them hung.
1) S hooks linked here. 2) Chain linked here. 3) Ceiling hooks linked here.
I have provided you with direct affiliate links to these Amazon products that do provide a small commission. They are priced the same as they would be directly at no upcharge to you, but are here for your easy access. And, of course, I greatly appreciate the business and your trust in me!
Follow these three easy steps below to get your new canopy hung in no time.
1) You are simply going to place the hooks in the ceiling at the four corners of your bed where you want the sheers to hang.
2) Next you will place the chain on the hooks and adjust it to desired length.
3) After placing the sheers on the rod through the rod pocket (or you could use clip-on drapery hooks if you prefer that look) place S hooks on the chain with the smaller side looped through the chain link and the larger side down to place the rod on. You’ll notice I didn’t need the S hooks here in this picture, because the rod I used was small enough to fit through the chain link. You may find one you like that works like this, too, but if not, the S hooks will work just as well.
And that’s it!
Let the sheers fall to the ground in a puddle or just barely off the floor. You can tie them at the center like mine or just let them hang freely.
It was really very easy to hang, very inexpensive to create and lends such a huge impact to this space. It just provides the cozy, romantic charm of a canopy bed without the expense. And, it completes the look in my cozy, cottage bedroom.
I do hope you give this a try. And, if you do please let me know how it looks!
