When my friend, Connie’s, husband decided to trade his boat for a Harley little did he know he was starting a craze. Because, immediately after he got his bike my friend, Susan’s, husband bought a Harley (actually two of them), my friend, Diane’s husband got a bike, my own husband ended up with two bikes…..a Triumph he calls Bonnie, and a Harley he calls Pearl. Next Todd B., Todd N., Russ and Brian followed suit – all Harley’s. Now they have an actual gang! Or what we affectionately call the “Mild Hogs”. And the wives, well, we’re the “Girls Gone Mild”!! Saturday the guys really wanted us to go for a lunch ride with them to get a burger at a “hole in the wall” place called “The Herdburger” in a town called Jacksboro. Since the ridiculously hot weather had cooled off a bit we decided to go for it, although all of us “girls gone mild” admittedly have decided we have a “butt tolerance” that max’s out at an hour to an hour and a half. (This ride would be closer to two hours – longer than we’re used to.) I broke the news to my friend, Becky, who I was supposed to go road trippin’ with to some great accessory shops, that I was ditchin’ decorating for my man, his Harley and the “gang” for the day. I hung up my designer bag, put away all thoughts of decorating and away we went.
My son and his girlfriend took these pictures before we left. They both laughed separately when they each saw me in my “get up”. Then they both tried to recover and tell me that “you look cool…..no really you do.” Nice try, kiddo’s.
Here’s some of the other “girls gone mild” after we met up at a gas station before heading out on the two hour ride.
The “Mild Hogs” gettin’ ready.
And here it is – The Herdburger. It’s really more like a hole IN the hole in the wall. Not much in the way of curb appeal from a “design standpoint”, but certainly in a “there’s something cool about this old, run down place” kind of way.
They had a tiny, tiny kitchen. It’s family owned and operated since 1916. Three generations – the younger ones still working there. Now that’s cool!
You place your order here. Not exactly a design fest here, but who cares. It had…what’s the word?…..that little ole’ thing called “character”.
We could have eaten here – in this tiny little eating area on these benches.
But the weather was so unbelievably beautiful for a change we chose to eat outside on the picnic benches.
The famous Herdburger: (Sorry for the blurry shot – just trust me – it’s reeeeeeeaaaaallly good!)
The boy’s toys at rest while we ate.
The “Mild Hogs” and the “Girls Gone Mild” full and happy, ready for the long ride home.
We definitely had to take a “butt break” for the ladies, but I have to admit that as much as I missed road trippin’ it with my girl, Becky, for great design finds this was a nice change of pace. It was a great day. A really great day! Not the same high that interior design is (sorry guys), but fun none-the-less. Hittin’ the road on the hog for a burger instead of hittin’ the road for new decorating finds……who knew? Now I want my own bike. Maybe pink or white…..with cool leather fringe….and maybe a little bling……..hmmmm.

Hey Sheri,
Great story about your Herd road trip! I was jealous when I heard you all were going and we couldn’t join you.
OK, so sounds like you are getting serious about the bike… let’s go shopping for bikes!
Love your site.
