Halloween: A Frightfully Good Time

When my friend, Joan, decided to have a Halloween party the task at hand for all of us was what food to bring and more importantly – what to wear!!!! Big decision!  Costumes were required and with this fun group they had to be good. There are eight of us that hang out together (four couples)  and when the four of us women were on a girl’s trip together we spent half our time trying to come up with a fun “theme” for costumes that the eight of us could wear.  We decided on Snow White and the seven dwarfs – Joan being Snow White.  Then suddenly the girls decided we needed a Snow White and a Snow“Off” White.  (I was nominated by the others to come as Snow “Off” White – Snow White’s sleazy rival! Ha!  How fun is that!)

Before the party started we, of course, had to prepare all the food.  You can’t have a party without yummy food so we all pitched in and brought different goodies.   This was one of my contributions – my Halloween cake.

PA300625 I keep all these little Halloween critters and use them every year in different ways to make a fun dessert.  The little ghosts are marshmallows (no I don’t save these) and I surrounded the cake with candy corn and sprinkled some all over the cake for color.

PA300619These are my little gnarly cake balls.  At my second attempt…….I’ve discovered it is not where my talents lie.  These turned out so embarrassingly imperfect that I decided to call them my ghost balls that came back from the dead.  With the Halloween theme I could pretend their lumps and imperfections were part of my master plan for them to appear ghoulish.  In reality they were just lumpy.  How do people get them so smooth and round?  Impossible!

PA300618I placed them on a Halloween platter with fall leaves and M&M’s added for a festive touch and some color; and inserted some plastic skeletons for fun.   All this helped to camouflage the cake ghost balls a bit!

PA300645This is Joan’s fun, festive, Halloween table.  Pumpkin cookies, witches hat cookies, broomstick cookies.  Bread sticks dipped in Halloween colors.  Popcorn with “eyeballs” in them.  Very fun – and very tasty!

(These are cupcakes I made for a different occasion using the same little critters.  They can be washed and re-used over and over again.  Makes any dessert fun.)

PA300641 This is me in my Snow “Off” White costume with my normally handsome hubby dressed up as my dwarf, Nerdy.  Hilarious!  He won third prize for best costume.   Thanks for being such a good sport, hubby!

Two of the dwarfs – Nerdy and Granny standing with the “Pimp”.

Three more dwarfs – Cookie, Roadie and Speedy with a grown up girl scout.

Granny’s little sister (we dubbed her) and her punker friend.

PA300633 A couple of Zorro’s.

Nerdy with another dwarf, Nashful, the dwarf country rocker.  Rhymes with Bashful….get it?

PA300636This is punker and pimp having a great time.

PA300637 The punker couple.  Winner of second place in the costume contest.  Too cute!

PA300638Pimp and his woman….or mother….we were never quite sure.

PA300639  The first place winners.  This couple enlarged pictures of Russ and Joan’s faces (the couple having the party) and made them into masks.  Then they dressed up in clothes that reflect Joan and Russ.  Very creative and too funny!

Everyone was so creative!  Great food, great costumes, great fun!  Lots of laughs.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN AND HAPPY FALL, Y’ALL!
