ON A PERSONAL NOTE:
In addition to having had a successful interior design business for twenty-seven years, I have always, like most women, loved fluffing my own nest. I love the hunt for home decor finds, I love (most of the time) household projects, a great bargain, DIY’s and most importantly creating quality time to spend with family and friends.
My hope is that my blog reflects all of these loves in my life.
I firmly believe in the adage, “God first, family second, career third,” and though it’s a daily challenge I do try my best each and every day. And, when I fail……I take a deep breath, turn it over to the Lord and give it another go.
I am now joyfully entering a new season which is basically (as weird as it sounds) the “last third of my life”. With that realization comes the added realization that it is time for me to wind down and explore other areas of my life than work, work, work and more work.…Like spend more time with my grandchildren, return to weekly Bible Study and many other things I’ve had to put on hold over the years due to my business. I look forward to all that life has to offer and pray that God would open my eyes to new things and new opportunities – looking at life through His eyes rather than my own. So, I’m currently exploring other aspects of life and what other opportunities the Lord may have in store for me.
So while I have been blessed with a wonderful career that I have loved for so many years I’m blessed now to have the opportunity to put it behind me and move forward with my life. I look forward to spending more time with family and friends, deepening my knowledge of the Bible and growing in my relationship with the Lord. And, of course, I also look forward to just the sheer joy of puttering around my own home – fluffing my own nest, gardening to my heart’s content and blogging!
My Blogging Story:
Welcome to my blog! Although it has been a bit of a whirlwind over the years, I hope you find this blog the act of love and energy I’ve poured into it over the years. While the look and premise has been ever-evolving and ever-changing as time has gone on……it is now back to its original roots!
I started this blog years ago as a fun home-decor/family blog which is the essence of what I wanted it to be. And then, as advised, I (unfortunately) decided to take it in a more serious direction transforming it into a “professional” site for the sake of “branding” for my interior design business. So it went from a lighthearted personal blog called Savvy In the Suburbs to a more serious business blog called Sheri Martin Interiors. Which basically took the “fun” out of it for me, because that wasn’t the intent of my heart when I started.
And although my blog actually became quite successful, as my business (and my family) grew and grew and life got busier and busier I found it difficult to keep up with. It was left unattended much of the time. I popped in now and then to do a blog each year on my “Word Of The Year”. But, for the most part it has been ignored.
Until now.
Now that I’m semi-retired and have some time on my hands I’m more than happy to say it is now back to Savvy In The Suburbs and I’m back to my basic blogging roots! It will take awhile for me to get back into the swing of all things “blog” , but I am excited about the journey. I hope you’ll come along with me.
