A New Kind Of New Years: From Grand Parties To Grandkids!!

Our New Years Eve has changed a bit.  Where once it seemed we were always out at a grand party of some sort whether big or small….tonight we will be hunkering down with our grandchildren.  (Sometimes it’s grandkids and a party…check out a couple of old New Years Eve blog posts here or here! Smile)

But, this year it’s just us and the grandmunchkins.  It’s a cold, rainy day here in Texas so that’s fine by us……perfect for some quality Mimi and Doogie time.

And, perfect for baking and crafts….

With my talented granddaughter…

And her famous and fabulously colorful cupcakes (Doesn’t she look so proud!)…or maybe we’ll try my new Oreo ball recipe below:

Doesn’t that sound good…..and easy?

We’ll snuggle and play…

And, do a little cuddlin’…

and when they go “nite-nite”

Doogie and I will have ourselves a drink (I’d love to try this yummy looking recipe I got this from Pinterest)…

New Years Purple Martini — 3 oz Vodka, 1 1/2 oz cranberry juice, ½ oz blue Curacao liqueur, ½ oz sweet and sour mix, ½ oz 7-up. Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker and shake gently. Add more blue Curacao if the color isn’t purple enough. Serve in chilled glass

Barbecue-Chicken-Flatbreads-2

Some flat bread pizza like this…..

Or this…..

I just use these FlatOut flatbreads.  Heat them in the oven at 425 degrees for around 4-5 minutes till slightly crisp.  Then top with your favorite toppings and place in the oven again till cheese melts – another couple of minutes.  My fave’s are with fresh spinach, tomatoes, onion, mushrooms, jalapeno’s (all sorts of veggie’s). I spread on pizza sauce, pile on my veggies, then I like to drizzle a wee bit of barbecue sauce on the top.  When it’s ready I’ll add avocado slices to the top.   Mmmmmm……muy bueno I tell ya!  And with only 90 calories in the crust it’s “guilt free” which is an added bonus!

And, I’ll probably make some flatbread chips to go along with it.  Just slice up the flatbread like chips and bake them in the oven 4-6 minutes at 425 degrees till crisp.  A 90 calorie flatbread makes plenty of chips for dippin’ in that hot sauce.  Perfect “guilt free” chips to go along with your “guilt free” pizza.

With drink, pizza and chips in hand we will snuggle down to watch a movie together….

I wouldn’t mind seeing this…..

Bourne legacy

But, since I picked the last movie it’ll probably be this.  (Which I want to see, too, so it’s all good!)

And, we’ll probably be in bed before midnight.

A perfect New Years Eve!

Happy New Year To You and Yours!
