Recently one of my high school besties turned the big ole 60 years old (although she certainly doesn’t look it) and her daughters decided to throw her a surprise girlie slumber party to celebrate the occasion. It was so cute and so much fun I had to share it with you. There are lots of great party decorating ideas for your own future par-tay.
Jan lives in a condominium right on the lake in Granbury, Texas, with a beautiful view of the lake. She actually owns two condos, one is the main house and one is the guest house. A great set up for visitors. Especially when there were ten of us sweeping in to surprise her and celebrate with her.
For starters – when we arrived – the door to her (incredibly adorable) condo was super festive and party ready.
And this greeted us in the hall on our way to the kitchen.
Her daughters outdid themselves with all the food and décor. Everything was colorful, vibrant and – dare I say – youthful.
Lots of goodies to munch on – all beautifully displayed.
Cute bags for the popcorn…
Yummy candies……(only one of these milk duds pulled the crown right off my tooth. Ugh!)
Wine, beer, vodka drinks ready for the night.
And you can’t have a slumber party without pizza can you?
We were told to bring leggings and when we arrived we each had a T-shirt on our beds with our name on it that we all put on before the partying began.
How cute is this?
Jan, the birthday girl’s shirt, said Happy Birthday.
Cassie Trammel, the girl in the front left is Jan’s niece. She has a fabulous camera with a back drop that she set up for picture takin’. We had lots of fun with this……..as you can probably tell.
Cassie, who was a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, is now married with two beautiful kids and has a huge Instagram following (cassie_trammell) and a huge Twitter following (@cassie_trammell). Be sure to check her out on both. This camera set up comes in very handy, because it takes excellent pictures and sends them right to her phone for easy uploading. (Now I want one!)
If you’ve been following my blog for a long while you may remember seeing a blog post about Cassie at her wedding shower that her Aunt Jan and some other friends of her mom put together. It was seriously one of the sweetest, dreamiest, most beautiful showers I’ve ever seen. You can check it out here. Trust me when I say – it’s totally worth the visit.
Like I said we had a little fun with Cassie’s camera. The sweet little girl taking a bite out of the cake is Jan’s granddaughter, Julia, and the cutie to the right is Jan’s oldest daughter, Natalie, mother to Julia and “party thrower extraordinaire”. (Which she must have learned from her mama.)
The cutie in the front is Jan’s other adorable daughter, Amelia, who helped put this shin-dig together. Yes, another “party thrower extraordinaire”.
Gettin’ serious now…
See what I mean….
Jan and her sweet Julia-belle sharing cake filled kisses.
After our fun little “photo shoot” we sat down to eat, talk, play games and watch Jan open her presents.
This is Jan’s sister Judy and I taking selfies. Jan, Judy and I were besties in high school and used to spend the night at each other’s houses. Clearly as you can see….you can take the girl out of her teens…..but, you can’t take the teens out of the girl.
In case you didn’t know Judy is Cassie’s mom, by the way, and is the choreographer of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. I just recently did a blog post about her house at Christmastime. If you missed it you can take a look here. It’s also worth the looksee to see her beautiful home.
This is me and another of Jan’s besties chowing down (not the most flattering of pics, but oh well!.) in our cute party tees. It’s just how we rolled that night…..eat, drink, talk, play games….eat some more. You know how it goes at a slumber party. Whether you’re 16 or 60….same fun stuff!
Me and Amelia chatting it up and catching up on life while Jan opened her presents. If you look passed us to Jan’s décor you can get a tiny glimpse of how precious and charming her place is. (I’ll be blogging about it with lots of great pictures in a few months.)

I think Jan was having a little fun, don’t you?
One of her gifts pretty much sums up the weekend.
I don’t want to give a lot away, because not all of her many ongoing projects are ready, but here is a sneak peek of one of the fabulous things she has in her house that I can’t wait to blog about.
What you see here is the headboard in her master bedroom. All of these sheets of writing are love-letters from her husband over the years going all the way back to high school. Jan was a serious “hottie” in high school (of course she still is) and I think her husband is forever grateful he nabbed her. LOL. (They’re actually forever grateful they nabbed each other) Jan printed out all his love-letters and love-notes on fabric paper (which I didn’t even know existed) and stitched them all together along with various pictures of the two of them over the years. She created an entire headboard with them. It’s not complete so I told her I’d only do sneak peaks. But, just wait till you see it. You’ll die! So creative, so romantic and so beautiful.
I keep telling her she should start a blog and blog about all the crafty things she does.
This is a little sneak peek ot her guest room in the main house. Love these Sherwin Williams Peppercorn walls with this cream and turquoise bedding and accessores. Such a charming space. I can’t wait to show you the whole room. Everything screams of Vintage Girlie-ness.
Here’s another peak at a little corner of her family room. How quaint is this! Jan buys almost everything she has at flea markets for practically nothing and then repurposes them till they look like a million bucks.
Notice how her girls added party goodies to match her décor. They tucked it in everywhere and it made it so fun and festive.
She bought this chair for $5.00 at a flea market and recovered using old linens, embroidery, tatting and lace.
I mean……seriously?
This girl has talent!
Don’t forget to check back in a few months to see her cozy, charming home. You’ll be glad you did.
A very fun, special weekend with a very fun, special friend.
Remember ladies….you’re never too old for a good ole slumber party!
Happy 60th!
And…
Happy Decorating!
Jan says
Don’t know how I missed this ….. love you!
