HOW TO CREATE A COZY BEDROOM

Is it time to convert your grown up child’s old bedroom into that cozy guest room you’ve always dreamed about?  Or maybe you’ve just never gotten around to cleaning out that extra room and doing something special with it.  Now you’ve got company coming and you’d really like a nice place in the house for them to land besides your child’s bedroom with all it’s baby dolls, Barbie dolls or Star Wars characters staring them down.  So it’s time….

It’s time to create that cozy guest room you’ve always wanted.

In my client’s case she was moving her teenage son into another room in the house and wanted to turn his old very “boyish” room into a cozy, charming, welcoming bedroom.

So we painted the beige walls Sherwin Williams color “Rain” and then it was out with the old bed and in with the new.

I gave my client several choices of upholstered beds and she settled on this one.  I like the detail with the curled back, the tufts and the nail heads.

We used her existing French nightstands from another room and decided on these sweet lamps with the barrel lamp shade and the crystals for a little soft glamour.

I wanted to keep the color scheme soft and soothing with soft blues and creams, but thought a little pattern in the mix would create some interest.  This pattern worked beautifully for the windows and some throw pillows on the bed.

A nice way to compliment the solid blues and creams.

The bedding is from one of my favorite trade only bedding vendors called Siscovers. A great source for semi-custom/custommade bedding.  I wanted “simple and understated” with a subtle combination of the blues and creams.

I found this distressed wall art at Hobby Lobby.  I think the juxtaposition of the aged look with the more transitional lamps make a nice touch.

.Again we kept her existing French dresser and mirror and I just added little touches of sweet accessories like this soft blue orchid….

And these book boxes, birdcage and “bird” bookends.

The end result is a cozy, warm, inviting guest room.

Just what my client wanted.
